Antique Honor Target Landscape with Lake and Mountains, Germany 1925
Item e8147

An antique honorary shooting target. The octagonal wooden target is decorated with a colorful print depicting an alpine landscape with lake, mountains and persons in boats. It features a handwritten inscription of the winner on the front and a handwritten inscription of the donator on the back. Shot in Germany in 1925.

The target of honor or king's target is a traditional award in shooting competitions. The tradition is predominantly widespread in southern Germany, Austria and Lower Saxony. Honorary targets are donated and shot in honor of a personality, on the occasion of a birthday, a wedding or a prize shooting competition. They were often artistically designed and hand-painted, especially in the 18th and 19th centuries. With the advent of printing technology, targets were also created using artistic prints.
