An antique commemorative shooting target dating from 1930. It depicts a traditional folk scene in which a man and a woman in traditional costume are dancing the Bavarian Schuplattler, several bullet holes can be seen in the centre. A decorative gold inscription on the rim states that the target was issued by Josef Winterkoller Sr. on 13 December 1930 and won by Josef Winterkoller Jr.
The target of honor or king's target is a traditional award in shooting competitions. The tradition is predominantly widespread in southern Germany, Austria and Lower Saxony. Honorary targets are donated and shot in honor of a personality, on the occasion of a birthday, a wedding or a prize shooting competition. They were often artistically designed and hand-painted, especially in the 18th and 19th centuries. With the advent of printing technology, targets were also created using artistic prints.
