Barovier & Toso Rostrato Table Lamp, Murano ca. 1940s
Item e6612

A vintage Murano art glass lamp manufactured by Barovier & Toso around 1940s. Crystal clear glass decorated in rostrato technique which generates a spiked three dimensional design to enhance the light reflections in the glass. The rostrato technique was introduced by Ercole Barovier in the 1940s. Good condition, 4 spikes appear sharp-edged which might be caused by manufacturing but could also be small damages. They are not visible. Cabling is replaced, the lamp is in working order.

Founded in 1884 Barovier & Toso became soon famous with their floral inspired and murrine glasses. In 1926 Ercole and Nicolo Barovier took over the artistic direction. Their first creations where sophisticated policrome murrine vases and animal sculptures. In the following years Ercole Barovier developed several hot coloring without fusion techniques as there are the Primavera, Crepuscolo, Gemmato, Spuma di mare, Barbarico and others. In the 1950s and 60s Barovier gained great succes with their pezzati series. Since the 80s the company collaborated with several artists. Today the product range mainly includes lighting fixtures.
