A small bowl of the Ariel series designed by Edvin Oehrstroem for Orrefors Sweden. Colorless glass with a blue and yellow overlay, cooled, sandblasted with a geometrical pattern, re-heated and cased with colorless glass. This example dates to 1953. Signed with: 'Orrefors Ariel Nr. 1711 E Edvin Oehrstroem'. An authentic piece of Midcentury Modern Scandinavian glass design.

Edvin Oehrstroem (1906-1994) was a Swedish sculptor and glass artist. From 1936 Oehstroem worked as independent sculptor and glass artist. At the beginning of his career he worked with the materials granite, terracotta and bronze. Later he specialized in glass and steel. He worked with Orrefors (1936 till 1957) and Lindshammer. At Orrefors he developed the 'Ariel technicque' together with Vicke Lindstrand and Gustav Bergkvist.
