a very rare twin-tailed mermaid, so-called melusine, from a general store or coffee shop. they have been hanging above the counter in general stores, village stores or coffee shops in the 19th century, and have been used to hang up goods for sale. they represent the allegory of colonial goods like coffee, tea or spices which are transported via see. this example is from the 1st half of the 19th century. made of carved wood, very good unrestored condition, partly painted over.
