A very large 'vetro soffiato' glass dish in amethyst transparent glass, designed by Vittorio Zecchin in 1925 and manufactured by Venini, Murano Venice. Acid stamped signature 'venini murano' on the base. Venini model number 1306. The dish has been manufactured in different sizes, this is the largest version which is very rare. One of the early 20th century designs of Zecchin for Cappellin and Venini which motivated the muranese glass companies to set out for new shores. Good condition with some surface scratches. The last picture shows it together with a mid size version with 14.29' inches as comparison of the sizes.

Vittorio Zecchin (1878 - 1947) was a native of Murano and the son of a glass technician. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice in 1901, but initially decided against working as an artist. In 1908, he joined the Ca' Pessaro group, which was made up of a number of young Venetian artists. Together with the painter Teodoro Wolf Ferrari, he presented some glasses made by Barovier at the XI Venice Biennale in 1914. From 1921 to 1925, he was the artistic director of the company Vetri Soffiati Muranesi Cappellin Venini & C., for which he created classic pieces in clear glass and delicate colors. These vases, inspired by the Venetian painting style of the 16th century, were the first examples of modern Murano glasswork. Vittorio Zecchin also worked for Ferro-Toso, A.Ve.M., Salir, Barovier, Seguso Ferro and Fratelli Toso.
