A rare phesant art glass sculpture from the Bestiary series. Designed by Tony Zuccheri in 1983 and manufactured by Venini, Murano Venice, in 2002. Made from brown and coral red canes that have been melted together and refined by grinding, the head is made of black glass with red and white applications. The bronze base bears the signature “Venini TZ 2002.” The sculpture also comes with the original vintage Venini label and certificate.
Toni Zuccheri (1937–2008) was born in 1936 and moved to Venice with his family in 1945. There he enrolled at the Academy of Architecture and studied under Franco Albini, Ignazio Gardella, Carlo Scarpa, and others. In the early 1960s, he began studying and working at Venini, where he collaborated with Gio Ponti. His designs are among the most iconic designs for Murano glass, especially the animal sculptures for Venini. He also collaborated with Barovier & Toso, Salviati & C., De Mayo, Seguso Viro, and Veart.
