Gio Ponti (1891–1979) enrolled at the Faculty of Architecture of the Politecnico di Milano in 1914. After graduating in 1921, Ponti founded an architectural firm. During this time, Ponti joined the neoclassical Novecento movement and advocated for a revival of art and culture. In 1928, Ponti founded Domus. In search of new forms of expression for Italian modernism, Ponti distanced himself from the Novecento movement and attempted to reconcile art and industry. Together with engineers Eugenio Soncini and Antonio Fornaroli, Ponti was very successful in industry and received numerous commissions throughout Italy. In the 1920s, Ponti met Paolo Venini. Ponti and Venini collaborated on several projects, and in the late 1940s, Ponti designed several glass series and lamps for Venini.
