19th Century Botanic Model by Robert Brendel - Spica (simple ear)

A great antique botanical model manufactured by the famous Robert Brendel manufactory for botanicals models around 1900. Highly detailed depiction, wood and paper mâché. The model is frome the series growth forms of inflorescences and displays the simple ear without terminal flower.

Robert Brendel founded the R. Brendel company in Breslau (Poland) in 1866. The factory produced models of anatomy, mineralogy and above all botanic for universities and schools. The models were made of papier mâché, wood, cotton, gelatin and other materials. From the beginning of the company, Robert Brendel surrounded himself with qualified craftsmen and scientists. Therefore it was possible for him to produce very detailed and realistic models. Throughout the life of the company, collaboration with various renowned scientists, precision and quality of execution have been a permanent concern of the company. His son Reinhold (1861-1927) also collaborated with his father and established a further factory in Grunewald near Berlin in 1898. Today the models of Brendel are rare and highly collectable.
