Antique round wooden shooting plaque featuring a hand‑painted scene of three pheasants in a grassy meadow. A brightly colored male pheasant stands in the foreground, while two female pheasants appear behind him among tall grass and wildflowers. Slender trees and distant wooded hills frame the background under a partly cloudy sky. The artwork is detailed and naturalistic, capturing a calm moment in nature, and is surrounded by a dark teal decorative border.
The target of honor or king's target is a traditional award in shooting competitions. The tradition is predominantly widespread in southern Germany, Austria and Lower Saxony. Honorary targets are donated and shot in honor of a personality, on the occasion of a birthday, a wedding or a prize shooting competition. They were often artistically designed and hand-painted, especially in the 18th and 19th centuries. With the advent of printing technology, targets were also created using artistic prints.
