An antique honorary shooting target from 1932. It has an octagonal shape with gold lettering around the edge. At its center is a decorative print of a landscape featuring castle ruins on a hill, a valley with water, and a rustic building surrounded by trees, with mountains in the background. Several bullet marks are visible near the middle, indicating its use in a shooting competition.
The target of honor or king's target is a traditional award in shooting competitions. The tradition is predominantly widespread in southern Germany, Austria and Lower Saxony. Honorary targets are donated and shot in honor of a personality, on the occasion of a birthday, a wedding or a prize shooting competition. They were often artistically designed and hand-painted, especially in the 18th and 19th centuries. With the advent of printing technology, targets were also created using artistic prints.
