Antique Black Forest Mirror with Antler Arrangement ca. 1920s
Item e8181

This impressive oversized wall mirror is crafted from numerous real antler pieces, forming an elaborate and symmetrical frame. The branching structures create a sculptural, three-dimensional effect that fully surrounds the wooden carved mirror frame. At the central points of the frame, decorative rosettes carved from antler burrs accent the composition, emphasizing symmetry and craftsmanship. The original antique mirror glass features cutted edges and is in good condition.

At the beginning of the 19th century the European nobility discovered antler furnishings for their hunting castles and countryseats. The furniture was either manufactured completely from e.g. stag antler, or it was decorated with antler pieces from the stag, deer, fallow deer and others to get a hunting desing. A famous example was the interior design of 'Jagdschloss Platte' (hunting castle Platte) of count William of Nassau near Wiesbaden, Germany in 1825.
