Antique Black Forest Mirror with Rustic Antler Decorations ca. 1900
Item e6294

A very large and impressive antler mirror decorated with great carved and turned horn roses and antler pieces of the stag, fallow deer, deer, mountain sheep and Virginia deer. Made in Germany, Black Forest circa 1900.

At the beginning of the 19th century the European nobility discovered antler furnishings for their hunting castles and countryseats. The furniture was either manufactured completely from e.g. stag antler, or it was decorated with antler pieces from the stag, deer, fallow deer and others to get a hunting desing. A famous example was the interior design of 'Jagdschloss Platte' (hunting castle Platte) of count William of Nassau near Wiesbaden, Germany in 1825.
